Since 1989, the artwork of Chad Hawkins has consistently maintained two elements: temples and hidden images. "One of my most frequently asked questions is how I developed the idea to use hidden images," explains Chad.
"My hidden images did not start with my first temple drawing. Ever since I was about eight years old, I incorporated hidden words or images in my art. in high school, I hid within my art, a name, logos, or other items that were important to me at the time. As I prepared to draw my first temple, I wanted my hidden image to be respectful and appropriate for the temple. It was at that time that I began my tradition of researching the temple's history for ideas on what message to camouflage within the artwork. My goal has always been to have the temple be the focus of my art, however if the viewer continues to study the painting, another meaningful image will immerge."
Chad has visited most of the temples and has published over seventy temple works of art. Before drawing each temple, he visits the temple site to research the history, construction, and beautiful surroundings. He then returns to his studio to draw the temple by referring to his note, sketches, and photographs. During this process he has conducted over 100 interviews with temple architects, general authorities, temple presidents and interior designers.
